Why the range is so wide

Location does a lot of the work. A shop in BKK1 or Toul Kork pays more rent than one on the edge of the city, and some of that rent lands in the price of a cut. Neither shop is cheating you — they are running different kinds of shop in different neighbourhoods.

The other two factors are the kind of shop and the person cutting. A barbershop that does clippers, fades, and beards all day is set up to be quick and affordable. A salon cut usually includes a wash, more time in the chair, and often a choice of stylist — and a senior stylist with a full book charges more than a junior building one.

Typical prices in Phnom Penh

• Men's cut at a barbershop — typically $3–15, with fades, beard work, and hot-towel finishes at the upper end.
• Women's cut at a salon — typically $8–30, depending on length and the stylist's seniority.
• Wash and blow-dry — expect around $5–12.
• Colour — from about $25 for a single-process colour, rising with hair length; highlights and balayage cost more.
• Treatments (deep conditioning, keratin, scalp care) — roughly $10–80 depending on the treatment.

Why some prices say "from"

Colour and treatments often show a "from" price, and sometimes a women's cut does too. That is not vagueness for its own sake: the final price genuinely depends on your hair — waist-length hair takes twice the product and time of a bob, and colour over previously treated hair is a different job than colour over virgin hair.

A "from" price is a floor, not an estimate of your total. The stylist confirms the actual figure once they have seen your hair, usually at the start of the appointment. If you want a number beforehand, message the partner with a photo and your hair length — most will give you a close quote.
